The II ICAM-China Research Summit for Emerging Scientists Successfully Held in Liyang

From December 7 to 9, 2024, the II ICAM-China Research Summit for Emerging Scientists was successfully held at the Yangtze River Delta Physics Research Center in Liyang, Jiangsu Province. The conference was jointly organized by the Institute of Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, ICAM-China, and the Songshan Lake Materials Laboratory. Over 80 experts, scholars, and doctoral students from 29 universities and research institutions in China and abroad gathered in Liyang to collaborate on future endeavors. The summit primarily targeted doctoral students intending to pursue postdoctoral research, aiming to provide a platform for academic exchange and interaction between potential postdoctoral supervisors and graduates. This initiative seeks to facilitate the smooth transition of outstanding doctoral graduates into domestic research institutions and support their career planning and development as future postdoctoral researchers.

 

On the morning of the 8th, Hu Jiangping, Deputy Director of the Institute of Physics, delivered the opening speech. He briefly introduced the background and objectives of ICAM-China, expressing hope that the platform would strengthen academic exchange and collaboration among young scholars. Subsequently, an expert from the Postdoctoral Science Foundation of China delivered an invited report via an online platform on the funding policies for postdoctoral research. During the conference, Chen Hui, an associate researcher from the Institute of Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Liu Can, an associate professor from Renmin University of China, presented keynote reports titled "Exploring New Structures and Properties in Low-Dimensional Materials" and "My Scientific Journey—A Long but Brilliant Path," respectively. Thirty-five doctoral students from institutions such as Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the University of Science and Technology of China, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Hong Kong Baptist University, and the University of California, Irvine, delivered oral presentations. An additional 21 participating doctoral students showcased their latest research progress and achievements through poster presentations. Postdoctoral supervisors and doctoral students engaged in in-depth discussions on scientific frontiers and career planning in related fields. Yang Kai from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Yang Jingyu from the Institute of Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Wu Ping from the University of Science and Technology of China, and Cui Chaoxi from Beijing Institute of Technology were awarded the 2024 "ICAM-China Emerging Scientist Award." Professor Wu Congjun from Westlake University presented the awards to the recipients.
